Haitians recovering from the recent earthquake will soon have more aid heading their way. The University of Virginia Health System and the Charlottesville Fire Department spent the last two weeks collecting supplies. Thanks to their efforts, two tractor-trailer loads of medical supplies, food, water, blankets, and generators were collected and provided to Gleaning For The World.

UVA’s Medical Center’s MERCI (Medical Equipment Recovery of Clean Inventory) program organized medical supplies, such as bandages, gauze and other first-aid items for Gleaning. The Health System diverts clean and unused surplus medical supplies and equipment to local, national, and foreign organizations and humanitarian projects. Throughout the year, Gleaning receives many donations from this program to respond to the needs around the world.

The Charlottesville Fire Department and the UVA Medical Center served as collection points for the surrounding communities. Their efforts will soon help thousands of people affected by the recent earthquake. Gleaning For The World is honored to have both organizations supporting our efforts in Haiti.
