Update on Syrian Crisis 5/15/2013

Syrian refugee families are witnessing unimaginable death and destruction in the midst of their country’s civil war. The escalating bloodbath is tearing families apart, leaving millions with nothing – no homes, no places to work, no medical care and no food. They have nothing to return to in their home country. With millions fleeing to neighboring countries, the violence has followed.

In the Turkish town Reyhanli, tens of thousands of Syrian refugees have tried to return to a semblance of a normal life. This has proven difficult. Two blasts detonated in the town, left over 100 injured and at least 47 killed. The Syrian government’s intelligence community is being blamed for these bombings in retaliation for what they perceive as interference in Syrian affairs.

Latest reports have blamed the attacks on locals with connections to the Syrian. As the conflict continues, more external forces are drawn into the conflict and these kinds of attacks will only increase. “It’s a dangerous situation for the women and children,” says Rev. Ron Davidson, president of Gleaning For The World, “This won’t just happen in Turkey. You will see these retaliations pop up near refugee camps in all the neighboring countries. They have witnessed atrocities and risked everything to get out. Syrian forces won’t let them go without a fight. That’s why we have to help these families.”

Gleaning For The World is continuing to supply refugee camps with much needed supplies. These multiple shipments included non-perishable food, soap, baby supplies, clothes and shoes. These supplies make an enormous difference in the lives of people in the camps. Basic necessities are scarce. By providing these supplies we reach out and show them Christ’s love.

Update on Syrian Crisis 4/15/2013

The crisis in Syria is growing worse by the day, and now the Syrian Air Force is accused of indiscriminately bombing civilians.
(see CNN.com story)

Refugees are fleeing to neighboring countries by the tens of thousands; Jordan and Lebanon have each accepted over 400,000 refugees apiece. There is an ongoing struggle to maintain a quality of life for the ever-expanding number of families forced to reside in these camps. Places of human misery draw out humanity’s predators; jihadists, traffickers, and others are prepared to take advantage of people who have few other options. Your help can provide the life-saving necessities that can prevent families from having to make these horrible choices.

Gleaning For The World COO, Rev. Ron Davidson says “It is a breeding ground for the jihadists; if we show the people in these camps that we do care they’re not going to sell their children to the jihadists. We can show them that there is a Christ because the majority of people from Syria do not know about salvation; they do not know about God’s grace. They have simply been told that we are the great evil in America.”

We have had great support over the recent weeks for this project. Thank you to everyone who has donated supplies and financially. Gleaning For The World has shipped its first load of supplies and needs your help getting aid to the camps. Now is the chance to show Christ’s love to God’s children who need it most.

In addition to financial support, we are in need of some key products. We will have special collection bins at Thomas Road Baptist Church (Lynchburg, VA) on April 21st, 2013. We are accepting baby items, personal care items and women’s supplies, which you can purchase at your local store and bring to the collection bins.

March 23rd, 2013

Escaping mortar fire, snipers’ bullets and fearing chemical weapons, more than 28,000 people are fleeing their home country of Syria each week. With the growing number of refugees now at 2,000,000 this month, many of whom are women and children, Jordan has opened its borders to help with this escalating international crisis. Many of these families have no homes to return to and will reside in tent cities for the foreseeable future.

Gleaning For The World is committed to providing aid to these victims of war. Working with partner organizations in Jordan, Gleaning has committed to ship over 2,000,000 meals and 50,000 pairs of shoes to Syrian refugee camps in Jordan. We nourish the body with food and the spirit with Christ.

“What we’re trying to do, as Christians, is show Christ’s love, and show them that we are not their enemies,” stated Ron Davidson, founder and president of Gleaning For The World. “The church is reaching out to help in their time of need.”

Gleaning For The World is actively responding to this crisis and we need your financial support. Your gift of $10, $25, $100 or $500 will go a long way in helping us feed and provide sanitary assistance to these families. Will you help us? Will you give now?

Gleaning For The World is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that is faith-based in nature. We exist to share the love of God at home and around the world through the efficient delivery of high quality, life-saving supplies to victims of poverty and devastation by connecting corporate surplus to critical needs.

We work in the United States and around the world supplying the impoverished with food, water, shoes, medical supplies and many other important resources.

We use a powerful concept called “gleaning” to accomplish this mission. By gleaning we mean that, from a host of generous corporate donors, we collect surplus medical and other essential supplies which we then are able to distribute where humanitarian help is needed worldwide.

Our ability to both glean and distribute humanitarian help is due entirely to the generosity of additional thousands of individual donors. To insure that our humanitarian help arrives at its destination as quickly as possible and at the least possible cost, GFTW employs its experience and expertise to provide expedited distribution channels, logistical support and reliable and timely communication with both our corporate and individual donors. We believe that all God’s children are deserving of compassionate and reliable humanitarian help, regardless of ethnic, religious or cultural background.

Gleaning For The World is responding as quickly as possible to the raging wildfires that have crippled Colorado. Three loads of supplies have already reached Colorado Springs for distribution. New Life Church in Colorado Springs will disburse the supplies, which include blankets, personal care supplies, water and pet products. More loads are under construction and will head to the area in the coming days.

At this point, over 32,000 people have been evacuated and are living in shelters, churches and schools. Because so many had to flee their homes with virtually no time to pack, thousands are in desperate need of basic supplies. These supplies, which will continue to be shipped to victims, include bottled water and blankets, pet supplies, toiletries and personal care items, stuffed animals, snacks and more.

Gleaning’s most pressing need right now is financial donations along with baby supplies and food. Each load of supplies costs over $3,500 to ship, and we need your help to make sure we have both the supplies evacuees need as well as the financial donation Gleaning needs to help 32,000+ displaced men, women and children.

Please consider making a special disaster relief donation to help wildfire victims in Colorado. You can be assured that your donations will be used wisely, and for every dollar donated, over $200 worth of supplies is distributed.

Gleaning For The World is mounting a swift response to aid Florida residents in need after Tropical Storm Debby drenched numerous major areas. Gleaning will send water, blankets, snacks, soda, cleaning supplies, pet supplies and stuffed animals to the Tallahassee Salvation Army for distribution to affected families.

Many coastal towns are at continued risk of severe flooding after several days of sustained rain. While Debby weakened to a tropical depression by Wednesday morning (6/27), the damage has already been done. Residents are also facing the tremendous task of cleaning up after floodwaters soaked homes, washed out roads and closed interstates.

GFTW is sending out supplies late Wednesday morning, and possibly more by the end of the day. GFTW is asking for Lynchburg residents to consider donating financially to support domestic disaster relief through the summer and fall.
