What is gleaning?
Gleaning is an Old Testament concept from the book of Ruth which refers to the sharing of one’s wealth. In Old
Testament times, people were permitted to reap the leftover grain around the sides of the field after the harvest and
give it to the widows. The gleaning concept was — and still is — one way God’s people can share with those in
need.
