Hurricane Harvey Overwhelms Houston

Our Response

Gleaning is working around the clock to provide critical supplies to the region.

Gleaning For The World continues to provide Hurricane Harvey humanitarian relief. 20 tractor-trailers have been delivered and preparation for more is underway. The shipments have included:  drinking water, bedding, toiletries, bleach, rebuilding supplies, pet food, stuffed animals and more.

Rising flood waters and unrelenting rainfall have overwhelmed America’s 4th largest city – Houston. With multiple fatalities, tens of thousands in temporary shelters and many still without power, this storm is estimated to cause 180 billion dollars worth of damage.

Partnering with Houston’s First Baptist Church, Prestonwood Baptist Church and volunteer organizations in the affected areas, Gleaning has sent its first wave of supplies to affected residents in South Texas. “The greatest need right now is drinking water, personal hygiene items, stuffed animals for the children, nonperishable food, pillows and blankets to sleep on and cleaning supplies,” stated Rev. Ron Davidson, founder of Gleaning For The World. “We will be working in Houston and the surrounding area for six to eight months,” added Davidson.

Continuing to intensify all the way to landfall, this monster storm slammed into the Texas Coast as a Category 4 hurricane. With sustained winds of up to 130 mph, Harvey was the strongest storm to hit Texas since 1961.

If you would like to partner with Gleaning in this natural disaster response, now is the time to give.
